FEDDEM Barrel Specification

Barrel Borings And Wear Protection

The figure-8-shaped barrel borings and all side openings are available with a seamless protection layer. This layer is made from special powdered metallurgies that are applied via Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP). Protection layers can be customized to protect against wear, corrosion or combinations of both. In case of protection against corrosion the surfaces of top openings are also seamlessly coated.

Screw elements are made from materials that offer protection against abrasion and/or corrosion. Careful pairing of the barrels’ wear protection and the screw element metallurgy allows for extended lifetime of the extruder’s processing section.

The heating and cooling borings are placed in a compact arrangement, so that the cooling channels run parallel to the heating cartridges. This allows for highly effective temperature control of the compounding process and for straight-forward access to cooling bores when cleaning is required.

Reduced downtime during an overhaul of the cooling system of the processing section and no need for dismounting barrel segments.

Flange-less Connections

Flange-less connections between barrel segments along the entire processing section prevent amassment of metal in the region between the segments (no flanges). This allows less heat radiation and more precise temperature control along the entire processing section.
