Beard Formation in Plastics Extrusion
Beard formation and product residues at the die outlet often pose a major challenge in the compounding of plastics.
This phenomenon, known as beard formation, occurs with a wide variety of polymer compounds.
On the one hand, complex compounds with high filler content can experience frequent strand breakage without proper countermeasures, negatively impacting productivity and throughput.
On the other hand, residues dragged along by the polymer strand can significantly affect product quality.

An Innovation for Your Production
The FEDDEM Automatic AirBlade (FAA) reliably removes product residues, ensures seamless production and guarantees consistently high product quality.
The FAA is equipped with a powerful 2 kW blower that generates a focused airflow through the slit nozzle.
This airflow is heated to a preset temperature by a 9 kW heating element, enabling it to safely and effectively remove residues at the die exit by precisely blowing them away.
The Advantages at a Glance
Powerful 2 kW blower for a constant and cost-efficient air flow.
9 kW heating element warms the airflow for effective cleaning.
Precise control of temperature and airflow prevents new residues.
Mobility: Smooth-rolling wheels enable flexible positioning in the production hall.
Height adjustability: Can be adapted to different strand outlet heights. Adjustment range 150mm.
Adjustable nozzle angle: Ensures optimal cleaning through precise airflow direction.
Customizable nozzle width: Changeable nozzle bar allows easy adjustment of slit width.
Adjustable pull-out length: The length of the pull-out can be customised.
User-friendly 4-inch touch display for quick temperature and air volume settings.
Smart control mechanism adjusts the air flow during the heating process to reach the preset target values quickly and precisely.
Safety function: Retraction mechanism in the event of strand breakage - the nozzle automatically retracts from the operator's workspace in case of strand breakage, triggered by an activator.
Frequency-controlled blower reduces energy consumption.
Low operating costs and rapid amortisation due to reduced strand breaks and downtimes and material waste.
High-quality, durable components minimize maintenance requirements.

FAQ: The Essentials about the FEDDEM Automatic AirBlade
The FAA is specifically designed for the compounding of engineering plastics and is particularly effective with materials that have a high filler content and where product appearance is crucial.
The FAA uses a precise stream of hot air to remove residue from the nozzles, preventing strand breakage and loss of quality due to beard formation.
Yes, thanks to its mobile wheels and adjustable height, the FAA can be used flexibly under different production conditions. It can be used independently and can therefore be used variably for different production lines.
Yes, we can easily adapt the extension length and slot nozzle width to your production conditions at no great expense. Adjustments to the height of the appliance and the height adjustment range can be made on request.
Thanks to the CEE plug and independent control system, the FAA can be integrated into any production environment in just a few minutes.
